it's time for fair competition
We’re giving disadvantaged young people FREE access to organised sport to create equal opportunities and level the playing field.
Find out if you qualify for free access to organised sports and recreational activities. Join a team, have fun, and connect with your community.
Want to give young people equal opportunities to access sport? Join us in levelling the playing field and creating fairer access for all youth.
What are the benefits?
Health
Low participation in sports for disadvantaged youth can have far-reaching consequences on their physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Breaking this cycle of disadvantage promotes healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Social
When young people join sports teams or clubs, they develop new friendships and bonds. This helps them to break down social barriers and increases their sense of belonging within the greater community.
Community
Team sports improve essential skills and connections, such as collaboration, discipline, and leadership for better community engagement. A positive outlet can reduce negative behaviours and grow young people’s support networks.
How it works
We create partnerships with Australian sports and recreation providers. Then we seek funding from government grants and philanthropic and corporate support to give disadvantaged young people a wide selection of sports and recreational activities to participate in for free (dependant on their postcode).
Let’s level the playing field
our mission
Remove barriers
By removing financial barriers, more disadvantaged young people can access sports opportunities, leading to a more inclusive community. As a result of the program, we expect participants to have increased confidence, physical health, and the social skills necessary to participate and contribute positively to their local community.
Breaking the cycle
Creating opportunities and ensuring fairer and more equal access for all youth to engage in team sports and recreational activities is essential for their personal growth and wellbeing. It also works to break the cycle of disadvantage, promotes healthier, more fulfilling lives, and brighter futures.
Equal access
Research has shown that individuals from households with an annual income of less than $40,000 have the lowest youth participation levels in sports and recreation. Participation generally continues to rise in line with income, with those from higher economic brackets more than twice as likely to partake in sports than their more disadvantaged counterparts.

Levelling the Playing Field acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work and play. We are in Darkinjung Country, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We’d like to extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders throughout Australia and the world.
